SŌK is a progressive alternative rock band made up of four art students in Chicago. Front singer, Alexis Plain, and guitarist, Nick Bilski, began playing together at the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. After the school's abrupt closing, the pair relocated to Chicago, found Jonah Nink (bass) on the internet, met Cameron Carlson (drums) in class, and it wasn’t long before they were known collectively as SŌK. Their avant-garde alternative sound has been compared to the likes of Paramore, Coheed and Cambria, No Doubt, and many others. Listen to SŌK’s debut EP and new single “Jawbreaker” below.

Alexis Plain

MEET ALEXIS PLAIN - the vocalist of SŌK! Originally from Minneapolis, Alexis always had a passion for music, particularly classic rock, and started studying guitar in elementary school. After experimenting with releasing music, she began her vocal education at Soundcheck Music and Performance School. She briefly attended McNally Smith College of Music for songwriting (where she met SŌK guitarist Nick Bilski), and now Alexis studies music and music business at Columbia College Chicago. When she isn’t writing, Alexis works in promotions for local rock radio stations. Fun fact: Alexis wrote her first song in the second grade.

Nick Bilski

MEET NICK BILSKI - the guitarist of SŌK! Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Nick was exposed to many different styles of music early on and has performed all over the NEO area, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He briefly studied guitar at McNally Smith College of Music where he began playing with SŌK vocalist, Alexis Plain. After the school’s quick closing, Nick relocated to Chicago where he is currently a guitar student at Columbia College Chicago. When he isn’t gigging, Nick is busy giving personalized music education to aspiring musicians of all levels. Bilski has a wide variety of musical influences - from jazz to R&B to metal - that all come together to create his signature guitar sound. Fun fact: Nick plays left-handed.

Now a music major at Columbia College Chicago, his drumming is influenced by rock, metal, and alternative music, as well as his unique orchestral training. Fun fact: Cameron is “unfortunately” gluten-free.

Jonah Nink

MEET JONAH NINK - the bassist of SŌK! Raised in the Chicago suburbs, Jonah grew up gigging with different groups throughout the area - whether he be playing bass, guitar, or singing. Currently studying English and Communications at UIC, Nink is heavily influenced by classic rock, blues, and R&B. When Jonah’s not playing music, he hosts a talk show on UIC Radio called Household Dragons and also contributes to the music satire site The Hard Times. Fun fact: Jonah once made the members of Pink Floyd talk about dolphins. Catch Jonah on Household Dragons every Thursday from 7-9 pm on UIC Radio.
